Being close to the water has had a profound influence on my work for this collection. The initial freedom of marks with charcoal, quickly evolved into suggestions of sky, ocean, horizon, foreshore, and marine craft. I intentionally kept the palette neutral and minimal to allow the marks to anchor the strong composition, leaving areas of raw canvas exposed to create a sense of ‘earthy’ calm with a slightly gritty, industrial edge.
